VIVE BARIS- VBGNMUN2023
VBGN MUN First Edition Report - MUN or Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations conference where students role-play as delegates of different countries and attempt to solve real-world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned portfolio. With this motto, on 12th and 13th October, Vishwa Bharati Public School, Greater Noida hosted the First edition of Vive Baris MUN, VBGNMUN’23. The opening ceremony started with the 'Lighting of the Lamp' followed by the welcome address by Deputy Secretary General, Kanika Rajput and Secretary General, Bhumi. The MUN Society of VBPS established five committees namely, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), Lok Sabha and International Press (IP) with over 80 delegates from schools all over Delhi NCR. Delegates representing the IP conducted interviews, edited articles, investigated committee debates and covered press conferences with striking questions. The different committees like UNGA, UNHRC, UNCSD, Lok Sabha made their own mark. Delegates representing all political parties held meetings based on the Agenda, and understood the importance of a consensus. The agenda was ‘Legal Recognition of Same Sex Marriage in India’. The members of the UNCSD committee set forth their priorities on maximising synergies and minimising trade-offs for Sustainable Development. The UNGA committee, being the prime organ of the organisation provided a unique forum for multilateral discussion on ‘Dollar and it Dominance in the World Economy since World War II’. The UNHRC that promotes human rights around the world discussed the current situation between Russia and Ukraine and its effects on the world with the key topic being ‘Food Security for Millions Jeopardised by Blockade of Ukraine’s Ports’. The closing ceremony was held on 13th October 2023. In conclusion, a warm note of gratitude was extended to the organizers and speakers of the ceremony. The First Edition of Model United Nations was an unforgettable experience and focused on the global issues so that we could make this world a better place to live in! The Executive Boards emphasised that an MUN is all about developing skills-research, negotiation, technical, interpersonal and communication.
